Custom RedM MLOs: Walk-In Interiors for Your Server

Walk-in interiors for RedM. Most buildings in Red Dead Redemption 2 are closed to players on a RedM server: the exterior is modelled, the door is not a door, and the roleplay that should happen inside happens on the street instead. An MLO replaces one of those buildings with a version that opens.

Each release here is a map asset rather than a script, which is what makes it framework-agnostic in the literal sense: there is no code in the folder to care. Drop it in, start the resource, and the building is open the next time somebody rides past. Join our Discord to hear when the next town gets one.

Valentine Post Office MLO

Valentine's freight depot and post office sits on the main street with no way through the door. This opens it up: three rooms to walk between, a reworked exterior, and 226 props placed into…

What you are actually buying

An interior is more than a room with furniture in it. The collision has to be tagged so players stop at walls and stand on floors, the lighting needs a timecycle of its own or the inside takes its cue from the weather outside, and reflections need probes per room or polished surfaces mirror a sky nobody can see. Props placed in the map file stream with the building; props spawned by a script arrive late and cost frame time forever. Those four things are the difference between an interior and a box, and they are what the specifications on each product page are describing.

Building your own instead

If you would rather make the interior than buy it, the RedM Map Editor is the other end of the same job: place props in-game, set up working doors and export a real ymap. The MLOs here are finished buildings for servers that want the result without the weeks; the editor is for servers that want to do the weeks.

RedM MLO questions

The same thing it means to the people building them: an interior you can walk into, shipped as part of the map rather than conjured by a script. RedM does not give mappers the portal and room system FiveM inherited from GTA V, so a RedM interior is authored as a shell with its own collision, its own timecycle and an ambient volume zone, then streamed with the world. The word stuck because the result is what players expect from an MLO, not because the underlying technique is identical.

No, and there is nothing in one that could. An interior is geometry, collision and lighting data with a manifest, so it has no server script to load and no event to listen for. VORP, RSG Core and RedEM:RP servers, and servers running none of them, all stream the identical files.

Not for the ones that replace an existing building. A replacement MLO takes over the footprint the vanilla structure already occupies, so the location is settled before you download it and players keep the landmark they navigate by. Only a wholly new building needs positioning.

Almost always the server build. Interiors use newer streaming behaviour than most scripts do, so each release states the artifact version it needs and that is the first thing to check. Beyond the build there is nothing to satisfy: no framework, no database and no other resource.
